Fake E-Cards: Spot the Scam

During Cyber Security Awareness Month, 123Greetings explains how to tell a genuine digital card from a copycat

Wisconsin, US, October 13, 2026 – 123Greetings, the online greeting card destination, today published a simple guide to spotting fake e-cards as part of Cyber Security Awareness Month. The reason is straightforward: people are happy to open a card from someone they know, and scammers exploit that trust. Impersonation is now one of the most reported type of fraud.

How to spot a fake e-card
1. Check the email address from which you have received the notification.
2. Look before you click: Hover over a link, or press and hold on a phone, to see where it really leads.
3. Be careful with attachments: A real e-card opens on a website. It should not ask you to download a file, especially a .zip or .exe.
4. Never enter passwords or card details to open a card: A genuine card is free to view.
"A card is meant to make someone feel remembered, and that warmth lowers our guard," said Arvind Kajaria, Founder, 123Greetings.
